Home-ed planners and logs
Weekly and term planners, a picture timetable for little ones, reading, learning and trip logs, a sticker chart and a jobs chart. Add your child’s name, dates and subjects, then print.
Keeping simple records
You don’t need anything fancy. A few lines a day is plenty, and it soon adds up to a picture of how much your children are learning.
A weekly planner with a few ideas per subject leaves room for the days that go somewhere unexpected.
A learning log filled in at the end of the day takes five minutes. Note what you did, what you used, and anything that clicked.
Trips, books and projects are easy to forget. Some families keep a log of learning and outings to look back on, and to share if their local authority asks about their home education.
Tips
- Picture timetable: stick it at child height and let them tick each part of the day. Young children like knowing what comes next, even when the times are rough.
- Reading log: count books read aloud together, audiobooks and comics too. The few words column can be the child’s own.
- Learning log: jot down the resources you used (a book, a website, a museum) so you can find them again.
- Sticker chart: pick one small, clear goal at a time, and a prize that fits the size of the chart.
- Keep it together: a ring binder with a section per term makes it easy to look back on the year.
